As a writer, I wonder why others write. Why did they start writing in the first place? What was their purpose? What is their inspiration?
I started writing when I was in 7th grade. A lot of things were occurring in my life and I needed an escape. I'm not a very open person, so I tend not to talk about my problems. I found my favorite author at that time, RA Salvatore, and his books helped me through everything that was going on. They still are. The classic plot of being the ugly duckling and not fitting in. Of being prosecuted for being different and finding your own way. One of the biggest questions the protagonist solves in the series is, "Where is home?" Is home where you were born? Is it where you move to after leaving that place? Is it somewhere that you have not yet been? Will you ever find it? He discovered, after 13 books in the main series, that home is where the heart is and with those you love the most. His books inspired me to start writing and get my feelings onto paper. Paper that I immediately destroyed as soon as I was finished.
I put little pieces of myself in all the characters I create, whether it be my loves of sarcasm and cats, my fears and weaknesses, my confusion and pain, or of my happiness and helpfulness. Through those characters, I find more out about myself. I discover how I would react in different situations and solve problems that are going on in my head at that moment.
I write to escape from everything and to get everything out. I have no desire to be published or to be recognized for what I've written. I write for me and no one else.
So, why do you write?
