So the novel I'm going to write in August is a story about a ghost.
I figure I should flesh out the setting just a wee bit, even though the "world" is actually a house.
1. What is the planet itself like?
The planet that Haunted Ghost takes place on is regular Earth.
2. List the different continents. Describe each one. (Include geography, wildlife, etc.)
N/A - it's the same as RL.
3. Describe the area your story takes place in.
The story takes place in an old farm house that has been converted to a more modern home with two attached apartments. This home is situated in your average North American town (I live in Canada, which is eerily like the US, I promise).
4. What are the politics like?
As this is a story that does not deal with politics, they are not listed here.
5. Describe any religious beliefs?
The main character is stuck in purgatory, on a plane close to ours. As there are demons involved, this story will most probably include Christianity for the religion (exorcisms).
6. What is the technology like?
The story takes place present day, so the technology would be similar to ours. Items like K2s, EMF detectors, voice recorders, video cameras, etc, will be prevalent throughout the story as the ghost and humans interact.
7. What is the art like in this world?
Nothing special in this world. I will not be focusing on art so much as comparing today's world with what used to be 130 years ago.
8. Describe the language?
English. No special dialect. What you would hear on TV, watching regular shows (excluding True Blood).
9. Are there any gender issues?
There are no issues dealing with abnormalities. Rather, this is a story about trying not to get eaten by a demon.
10. What sort of foods are common?
While I will focus on the human world, food will not be a point of focus. Perhaps the humans that live in this home enjoy takeout a lot though.
11. What is the level/type of medicine used in this world?
As a ghost, my main character will really have no use for medicine, so this is not something to focus on. Medicine for the humans is the same as what our world offers us. "Free" medicare, perhaps. Bah. Free, me arse.
12. What sort of economy does this world have?
There really is no bartering on the plane my character lives in. He simply exists, watching his home change as the generations move forward.
13. What sort of traditions/ideals get passed down?
It's not so much what gets passed down as opposed to what changes. Change bothers the ghost, and when his home is being renovated by the current human inhabitants, he gets a bit antsy and tends to move things, and scare the people.
14. Describe the social classes in this world.
Humans live on their plane, while the ghosts live on their own. The two planes are very close to each other, which is why hauntings occur. However, demons also exist on the ghost plane, and they tend to be quite the evil creatures.
15. What kind of relationship do your people/creatures have with nature?
Technically, the ghost is part of nature, as he is energy in a complex form, nothing more.
16. Describe the general ethics of your world.
Ghosts only really associate with each other when they live in the same place. Ghosts are pretty much like humans - a lot of them are nice, but some of them are complete jerkfaces. Demons, on the other hand, are extremely evil creatures who love nothing more than to rip apart ghosts slowly.
17. Are there any important historical events that occurred?
The most important event isn't so much historical as in the moment. The humans that live in the home are currently renovating the home, which results in releasing a previously trapped demon into the home. The demon is still slightly restricted, and can't quite kill the main character right off, but sure is trying.
