Alexandria caught a glimpse of the clock as she returned to her home. As she deposited her new wares on the kitchen table, she silently cursed to herself when she realized she was expected at Lady Moore’s for lunch. Rushing, she changed into a maroon dress. While she ripped a comb through her hair with one hand, she grabbed her coin purse with the other. She rushed out the door and threw her comb to the side.
It was not a long walk to Lady Moore’s house, so she thankfully made it only a few minutes late. She gently rapped upon the door and waited for the butler. When he came, he seemed to have an odd look about him. Something must have given him a fright. She accepted his offer to take her coat before following him to Lady Moore.

Lucas smiled, pretending that he was interested, as Lady Moore gossiped about a few of the other ladies that she associated with. He heard the door to the garden open and he looked over to see a young woman in a maroon dress walk out to them. He had never seen her before, that he knew of, but she seemed strangely familiar...

“Good day, Lady Moore,” Alexandria stated with a slight curtsey. She motioned her thanks to the butler before moving closer to the table. “I am terribly sorry to be late. I was rather tied up with my affairs.” She said nothing more of the matter but turned toward the other guest. Strange… She had never seen him before. It was obvious he was of decent wealth, but aside from that, there was little she could tell from his appearance. “I do not believe we have had the honor of meeting before,” she commented.

Lucas stood up, politely, as the girl walked into the room and apologized to Lady Moore. He bowed his head and took her hand after she spoke, "Lord Lucas Barrington. It is a great please to meet you, my Lady..." he lifted his blue eyes up from her hand to her face, a slight smolder attached.

“Alexandria Walters,” she offered, smiling softly in return. She bowed her head to show him respect. “And the pleasure is mine.” She smoothed out her dress with one hand, silently cursing herself for not grabbing a crisper one. She knew staying out so late was a bad idea, especially the night before she was asked to lunch, but even if she wanted to go home, it would have spelled death. Fatigue hung under her eyes, but she did her best to keep a smile on her face to disguise the bags.

Lucas released Alexandria's hand, gently, and stood up straight. He hadn't realized how small she was. Easily a head or two shorter than himself. She seemed like she would be one to break easily, but the look in her tired eyes stated otherwise. She was very intuitive and bright. And obviously not one for gowns... She seemed uncomfortable in the maroon fabric, but refused to let anyone know about it. He bowed his head slightly and pulled a chair out for her at the small table and gestured for her to sit, "My Lady."

“Please, do call me Alexandria,” she insisted, taking a seat. Quite the gentleman. She liked that. “Thank you, Lord Barrington.” She smoothed out her dress a bit more as she crossed her legs at the ankles. “I am quite surprised I have never seen you around before. Usually, I know everyone in town.”

Lucas nodded his head at her request, "Then I insist that you call me Lucas." He sat down in his own chair and observed Alexandria as she sat and crossed her ankles. He suppressed a chuckle. "I am surprised as well, for I have not heard of you. I have lived here for most of my life. When I was a child, I moved away then came back about 10 years later. It has been 10 years since then." (OOC: he left at 8, returned at 18, now he's 28)
Lady Moore watched the two of them speak to each other, yes... she had done well in pairing them together. They were both too intelligent for their own good.

“Really? Now that is strange. I have lived here all of my life,” she commented. “Well, it is certainly wonderful to finally get to meet you, Lucas.” She drummed her fingers upon the table as she looked him over again. Why couldn’t she figure anything out about him? Her skills were not that good, but she could read Lady Moore like a book. All of this had been set up. Whether or not Alexandria liked it or not was still up in the air, but so far so good.

Lucas smiled at her, a twinkle in his eye. He could tell that her not knowing who he was bothered her. Still looking at Alexandria, he spoke to Lady Moore, "Lady Moore, how has your nephew, David, been of late?"
Lady Moore stared at him, a blank smile on her face. She didn't seem to hear him through her fantasies of getting the two together.

Alexandria tucked a loose curl of dark hair behind her ear and turned her attention toward Lady Moore. Of course, she expected little more than the response Lucas received. Too absorbed in her own thoughts, but certainly she did not expect her to have any feelings for the man! True, she felt something, but she doubted it was love.

Lucas laughed lightly as he read Lady Moore's expression. She was a ridiculous woman with ridiculous fancies. He was about to speak when the butler came out with a tray of small sandwiches. He frowned slightly, he always hated those.

Alexandria was relieved that a distraction from the talk had come, especially in the form of food. She had not eaten since the night before, and her stomach was whimpering pathetically for a morsel or two to enter it. She kept herself composed, despite how badly she wished to swallow the sandwiches whole. Not wanting to appear rude, she left the tray be. When everyone else was eating, then she would eat, but certainly not before.

Lucas stared at the tray as it was placed on the table and sighed. He really didn't want any. He looked over to Alexandria and saw the hungry look in her eyes. Someone must like tiny sandwiches... "After you, Alexandria," he gestured to the plate.

She smiled. Well, at least he had his manners about him. She nodded her head in a thank you and took one of the small sandwiches. After the long day without food, she would not have cared the sandwiches were made out of leather. She was careful to pace her ravenous hunger and take only small, lady-like bites of the food. After swallowing the last of the tiny food, she asked, “I am curious. What part of town are you from if you do not mind my asking.”
