I stepped out into the clear, starlit meadow, my hair tossing in the wind. The wind around me moved softly, caressing the leaves of the trees into a slow and gentle song. I looked up to the sky, watching the clouds as they performed their waltz for me. The sea of stars twinkled, illuminating the light fog kissing the damp ground. A quiet melody seemed to play in the air around me, raising the need for my voice to make itself known. The lullaby found its way to my lips, causing the wind to soften its music. The fog rolled around my feet, making me feel as if I were on a ship at sea, changing the words I sang to rise and fall in volume like the ocean’s waves. As I sang louder, the wind conducted its orchestra to follow and as I softened, the maestro softened his touch. Everything quieted as the last sad notes escaped from the song. The music was over. I looked up to the sky and smiled my thanks. A gust of powerful wind tousled my hair and shook the trees in applause, causing my smile to widen. Some of the leaves fell away from their trees and flew in circles around me on the wind. The fog disappeared, leaving a path toward my small home. Small, flashing yellow lights filled the path. The lights moved around, some slowly, some quickly. I walked forward with careful steps, not wanting to disturb the dancing insects. I came of up my house and looked back at the field. The gentle glow of the lightning bugs faded away as the fog covered them once more and the wind died down.
