These are only a few questions to help with developing a well-rounded world. The moderator who posted them there goes into a lot of detail about each and it is well worth the read. Consider the questions below an abridged version. I take no credit.

1. What is the planet itself like? (Include temperature, location in galaxy, atmosphere, any moons, how many continents/islands, etc.)
2. List the different continents. Describe each one. (Include geography, wildlife, etc.)
3. Describe the area your story takes place in. (Physically. Size, temperature, geography, which continent, etc.)
4. What are the politics like?
5. Describe any religious beliefs?
6. What is the technology like? (No world is without some form of it. From computers to using sticks to eat termites, all worlds have something.)
7. What is the art like in this world? (Art is anything created out of enjoyment or simply for the experience.)
8. Describe the language? (Even if it's simple English, there are dialects and styles for different areas of a world.)
9. Are there any gender issues? (Gender defines socially accepted norms.)
10. What sort of foods are common?
11. What is the level/type of medicine used in this world? (Do they eat berries to cure illnesses, scan people, or just give them pills? Go into detail.)
12. What sort of economy does this world have? (Bartering system, money, etc.)
13. What sort of traditions/ideals get passed down?
14. Describe the social classes in this world.
15. What kind of relationship do your people/creatures have with nature?
16. Describe the general ethics of your world.
17. Are there any important historical events that occurred?
