Hey! I was wondering if anyone here has heard of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) www.nationalnovelwritingmonth.org and Camp NaNoWriMo www.campnanowrimo.org. Has anyone participated in the past? Does anyone plan on participating in the future? I participated for the first time last November, and managed to bang out a 50,000 word novel. During the editing process it turned into a 48,000 word novel, which I then managed to get printed. I sell them privately, and there is a copy of my novel in the library of my hometown!! I also paid a good 100 bucks to a comic/artist friend in Ireland to make my cover art for me. In June, I managed to make a SECOND nvel (in the same universe), and I have plans for another novel for August. SOOOO much writing. NaNoWriMo is good for people who need deadlines and goals to motivate them to write.

I have attempted it. I didn't get very far. I'm bad with deadlines when it comes to writing.... I may attempt it again at another time though.

I haven't the time. Unfortunately Camp NaNo always hits when I'm busy with Writing Bootcamp on Starmen.net and November NaNo is during my college school year so I'm always busy.

I do it all of the time! Next month will be my sixth competition, and I have won three so far. One of mine actually got published: Dawn of the Night. It is available online and privately from me. The other two I completed will probably get mashed into one that will send out to a big name publisher for publication rather doing the free publishing that Nano offers.

I know the idea of a deadline isn't right for every writer, but I need that deadline to motivate me.
I'm so impressed, Idazle! WOW!
I'm really hoping I can get 50,000 words out this August, but I'm unsure. The story I have in mind might not be that long. If it's not, I'll be sketching out my second draft of June's novel, and I intend on adding quite a bit.
Does it count if you write one story and then add to another? lol

I guess it still counts. It isn't a traditional NaNo because it is only supposed to be one novel, but there are still people who do, I don't know.... Short story novels whatever they're called... In the end, it all comes down to your own conscience, really, because you'd be the only one who knew.

Do you have any suggestions for helping people to get through a whole month of writing non-stop? My best advice is to remove as many distractions as possible - except one. For instance, when I write, the TV is off, and the only website I allow myself to go to is Etsy, where I look at things I can't afford to buy, which makes me not want to look at them. ^___^ So I go back to writing.

Well I have to say I'm very happy it has helped you guys so much and honestly congrats. It just doesn't work for me. The whole point is, it doesn't matter how horrible you write just write. I can't just write to make fifty thousand words I need write because I need to. Everything I write and I need some Point for all of it. But if it's for you then do it

I do have stories I want to write. It was hard for me to wait so long to write my latest novel.
Actually, last year when I decided to try out, it actually got me out of a funk where I wasn't writing at all.
I'd have all these GREAT ideas, but just absolutely no motivation to write them down.
As it is, during the summer months, I usually don't have the time to write - not because I actually don't have the time, but because I try to fill it up with more entertaining things. By forcing myself to write, I get writing done (which makes me very happy) while I still have some time to enjoy life, too. I just need to find a happy balance.
I'm like that though. Without a goal in sight, I put things off, even if they're things I'd enjoy.
It really all just depends on each writer, and how they manage to write. I'm sure I could do this without the website - just have a friend harrass me daily to see if I'm writing.

My advice is to find good "noveling music." The music should reflect whatever it is your writing. For instance, I was writing a religious supernatural thriller, so I listened to groups like Casting Crowns and Hillsong.
I love NaNo so much because it just pushes me to my limit and forces me to stay awake until midnight each night to get in my noveling for the day! XD

The song I'm currently into does reflect what I'm writing.... Holy shit! Inspiration! Thank you Ald! I may have just found out how Hreiyo (formerly known as Nai'tn) got his power! (Chasing the Dragon by Epica)

I can't write (or read) with music on, oddly enough.
However, I do my best plot thinking while walking and listening to music. You're right! The music always does have such a great influence on what I think up while walking.
Which is why you should never listen to music from a musical while plotting - suddenly your characters are singing in the middle of the street. D:

I love listening to music for writing, especially rping. Unfortunately it proves a distraction if one song on my playlist doesn't fit so more often than not I won't bother putting it on. To eliminate this, I'll grab a soundtrack from a videogame. Usually they have very nice ambiance without the words to get in the way.
