In celebration of my novel's reboot. Here's Kanzali.
1. How old are you?
I am 20 years old.
2. Who/what is your arch nemesis?
Esani. She is a Guardian Angel.
3. Describe how you look.
I am 5'4", have pale skin, dark green eyes, and a black target shaped tattoo on my left shoulder. I have four black wings. The top two are larger than the bottom two which simply overlap them. The bottoms of my feathers are blue which is considered disgusting by angel standards. My hair is long and black. I usually dye some blue into it because it pisses off the Council.
4. Describe your home.
I live in a large building in a city on clouds. It is circular in shape and has dormitory style living quarters for every angel. My door is number 1,432. We are all required to place one of our feathers on the door as identification. As I am the only one with blue on mine, it is easy.
5. What is your favorite activity?
Walking in the sunshine. It feels wonderful and warm.
6. Describe your standing in the world. your people.
The angels are a corrupt government of sorts who reign over magic on Earth. There are three main types of angel, Guardian (like Esani), Arch (like myself), and Watchers (two wings, humans who died from accidents, considered lowest on the hierarchy.) We are ruled by the Council, also called the Circle, who is headed by Esani. She is a tyrant who does not stand for the objections of others even though the Council is meant to be ruled by the group.
My personal standing is shaky. Not only was I created by a Fallen, I died from an accident, and I am imperfect. By all means I should be much higher considering I am an Arch angel of great potential strength. Esani is afraid.
7. Do you have any scars or strange markings? How did you get them? What do they look like and where are they?
I have my target tattoo. It was given to me by the Council when I arrived. It is their mark, not my own. It is a classification mark.
8. Do you have any habits?
Unfolding and refolding my wings frequently. It is hard to get them to be comfortably positioned.
9. Do you have any memories of your parents?
No. I lost all memory after my death. For all intents and purposes, Hasir and Arikka are my family now.
10. When you sleep, what do you dream about?
Bits of Hasir's life, actually. He gave his lifeforce for my existence and now he dwells in me.
11. What is your lifelong dream/wish?
I guess I should rightfully say overthrowing Esani and saving the world and all that crap...but it's not. I just want to be happy and not feel like I'm being pushed around by duty.
12. Is there anything you are afraid of? What is it?
Heights. I can't even look off the edges of buildings. Flying doesn't help. The fact that I live in a city of clouds doesn't help.
13. If your arch nemesis attacked your home, what would you do?
Nothing. I am powerful but I don't know how to use my magic to defend or attack, really. It just kind of happens. I use wit and my sharp tongue more often and that wouldn't help when Esani has me pinned to a wall with magic. She'd trash me.
14. Do you feel guilty about anything?
Arikka's suffering. She knew Hasir had to die. I had nothing to do with his choice... yet it is my fault. I've inherited this sin.
15. Where is the place you always like to go when you want to be alone? (favorite place)
My room. There's nowhere else to really go.
16. Do you have anything (object) that you treasure?
No. I don't have any mortal possessions anymore. I can't even remember who I was...I believe Arikka called me Kana before she renamed me Kanzali. Maybe that was it.
17. What do you do when you are nervous?
Pace. Lots of pacing.
18. Do you have any family?
No. Not that I remember.
19. Do you have any close friends/allies?
Arikka, in a way Hasir, and Kartik.
20. What is your favorite sound? Smell?
The sound of running water, the smell of salt air. In short, the ocean. I don't know if I've ever seen it...I just for some reason feel very relaxed by the combination.
