I paced back and forth, waiting for Viscard to come and speak with me. He said he would be here any minute, and I had already been waiting an hour. Viscard usually wasn’t one to be late, but I was certain he was fine.
Slowly, he strolled down the stairs, each one creaking with his steps. When I saw him, I smiled. “Hello, Viscard!” I greeted him, running over to him as I always do. I threw my arms around him, but he pushed me away. Typical Viscard…
“What have you been doing, Tashmin? I have not seen you for quite a long time,” he said formally. He never addressed me in any other tone.
“I was out,” I stated simply, my tail swishing back and forth. “Is something wrong?”
“No, no. I was just wondering,” he said, walking over to one of the dungeon cells. “Why do I sense something?” he asked, raising an eyebrow.
“What do you mean? There’s nothing down here but me!” I said, gently putting my hands on Viscard’s shoulders. “Just relax.”
He forced me off of him. “There’s something in there!” Without another word or warning, he kicked down the door. I watched as he jumped back, a look on his face I had never seen there before. “What did you do, Tashmin!?!” he hollered, turning and glaring at me. His glare was a mixture of anger and surprise.
“I did as you had ordered…” I whimpered, my ears flattening against my head and my tail drooping low to the ground. I took a few steps back. This Viscard was one I had never seen before, and I was truly petrified of him.
“I did not order this, you fool!” he shouted, storming over to me and grabbing the collar of my tunic.
I flinched and closed my golden eyes. “I am sorry!” I cried.
“You are sorry? SORRY!?!” he hollered. The next thing I knew, my cheek was erupting in stinging pain. “You think that word fixes everything, don’t you?” he growled. He forced me into the cell holding my last bit of destruction: a shattered glass orb.
“But you said-”
“I said to destroy the orb of enlightenment, you fool! This is the orb of darkness! Without it, I am nowhere near powerful enough to fend off the entire Enlightenment army!” he bellowed, shoving me to the ground.
My face landed a whisker away from a black shard of glass protruding upward. “Viscard! I didn’t know!” I cried out, tears streaming down my tan face.
“Oh, you didn’t know, huh?” he asked, kicking me sharply in the side. I yowled in pain. “No. It’s too hard to tell that a dark colored orb is the orb of darkness and the light colored orb is the orb of enlightenment. You fool,” he hissed.
“But there was no other orb!” I whimpered.
He froze and stared at me. “No… other… orb?” he asked.
“That was the only one. I assumed that was the orb that needed to be destroyed!” I continued to plead.
“This isn’t good…” he mumbled, running out of the room. I force myself to get up and follow him.
Two stone pedestals, each draconic in shape, held up their hands, but neither one held an orb. “But where could it possibly b-” he stopped midsentence. “The Enlightenment!”
“What is it, Viscard?” I asked.
“The Enlightenment stole the orb of enlightenment to protect themselves! I should have guessed! We need to get it back, but I am too weak. You on the other hand…” He smirked and looked at me.
“I barely survived the last encounter!” I whined, backing away. “I cannot fight them again.”
“Well, it doesn’t look like you have much of a choice,” he chuckled, walking over to me and wrapping an arm around my shoulders. “For me?” he asked, kissing my hair between my ears.
I nearly faint. “Anything for you!” I blurted out before I even knew what I was saying.
“That’s my girl,” he whispered, patting my shoulder. “Now go get it.”
